the 4th of july
The 4th of July is one of my all time favorite holidays. I love decorating my house in red, white, and blue. I love celebrating with all the festivities of the day. I love watching the fireworks at night. But most of all I love being able to remember why we honor this special day.
This year was a pretty busy one for our household! My parents and sisters were in town for a cousin's wedding, so we were able to spend it with them as well as one of my Dad's brother's and his family, and my Dad's parents.
The morning started off with our annual Young Women's 4th of July breakfast. I was up at about 5 am getting potatoes ready with some of the other leaders, and then we were on to setting the rest of the stuff up, and making pancakes. We had lots of fun though, and made some good breakfast!
I then joined Chris and my family at the Provo 4th of July Parade. I haven't been to this in years, and my family had never seen it, so it was fun to go. We had awesome parade weather too! Perfect for sitting on the side of the street in the sun.
Evan watching the parade. He was a little scared of all the policeman on their motorcycles, but he eventually warmed up to it all while sitting in Chris' lap. Cutest. Thing. Ever.
Go Cougars!! It was fun to see Cosmo do all his tricks.
We got Big Red the chicken out for my cousins to see. They had fun petting her. Sadie even got in on the action too! She was nice though :)
Chris' famous "the BOX" firework concoction that was pretty awesome, but may have totally caught on fire...in the middle of the street...haha.
Overall we had a great 4th of July. Lots of relaxing and eating great food with family! I was sad to see it end, but I'm excited to know that next year we will have a little baby boy to celebrate it with.

4th of July Craftin'
Looking for last minute 4th of July crafts??
Here are two that are easy, and cheap that you could get done in less than a day!
(All items were purchased at Hobby Lobby)
Glitter USA Letters
Items Needed:
Cardboard letters - U, S, A
Modge Podge
A brush
Glitter
Clear Spray Paint
You'll cover each letter in a lot of modge podge. Make sure it hasn't dried before you dump the glitter on it!!
Pour the glitter all over the area were you put the modge podge. Let it dry, and continue to cover the rest of the letter. Once you've done each letter, let it dry for at least a half hour.
Once it's dried, spray some clear spray paint over the letter to lock in the loose glitter!
4th of July Canvas Star
Items Needed :
Canvas - any size
Red, White, and Blue paint
A brush
Wooden Star
Wooden Circle
Modge Podge
Glitter
Tape
Hot Glue
You'll want to start out by painting whatever piece you want whichever color you want. For mine, I did the canvas red, the star blue, and the circle striped with white paint and glitter.
For the circle : You'll want to paint the entire circle white. Once that's dry, divide up the circle evenly with tape to create your stripes. Use your modge podge to add the glitter to. Make sure it's still wet before you add the glitter so it sticks! Once that's dry you'll remove the tape. You shouldn't need to touch anything up, but if needed you can. Once the circle is dry, glue the star to it in the middle.
Glue the circle to the canvas. Wait for it to dry before you hang up!

4th of July Wreath
Those of you who know me, know that I LOVE the 4th of July.
It's by far one of my favorite holidays next to Halloween, and Christmas of course.
I've been searching Pinterest for some fun decoration ideas that I can make, and put into my house.
I stumbled upon a cute wreath that seemed pretty simple, and pretty cheap to make,
so I hit up Hobby Lobby on my way home from work to get the need supplies!
I was so excited to start this adorable wreath, that I totally forgot to take step by step
pictures of what I was doing to like planned, to then post on the blog.
Forgive me! I did snap a few though...
Forgive me! I did snap a few though...
What you need :
- A straw wreath (keep the plastic on to make it a clean project)
- Red, white, and blue ribbon
- Wooden stars
- White paint
- straight pins
- glue
Steps
1. Paint the stars with the white paint and let dry.
2. Wrap the red and white ribbon around half of the wreath. Use straight pins to pin a few sections
(on the back side of the wreath) along the way just to keep the ribbon in place.
2. Wrap the red and white ribbon around half of the wreath. Use straight pins to pin a few sections
(on the back side of the wreath) along the way just to keep the ribbon in place.
3. Use super glue to attach the stars to your wreath.
(I had to tie a ribbon around the wreath to hand it from my door hanger because the wreath was too thick to hang directly on it. So that's an option for you too!)
You're done! Hang it on your door, or in your house and enjoy your 4th of July pride like me :)
